The following is an entry I submitted to a newsletter intended to create more awareness of the bed bug problem here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. To disseminate information to a wider audience and as a follow-up to the lecture on bed bugs, I am posting it here at www.insectexperts.com.
Myth: We cannot see bed bugs without the use of a microscope or a magnifying glass.
Fact: Bed bug adults are about the size and color of an apple seed.
Myth: Only low-end hotels or motels and poor communities get infested with bed bugs.
Fact: Bed bugs may be carried by anyone via clothes, luggage or furniture. No house or building is immune to bed bug infestation.
Myth: A pest control company can do all that is needed to solve a bed bug problem. All we need to do is hire one.
Fact: Pest control professionals can only do so much and treatment should be seen as the last resort, i.e. after all else has failed. The solution to any pest problem starts with prevention and this responsibility lies with us homeowners. Educating ourselves, our family, friends and neighbors is the first step.
