In light of the Earth Day celebration around the world, entomologists can lend their voice, brains and hands (plus the heart, if it, too, is passionate about the cause) to the promotion of entomophagy or the practice of eating insects.  If the initial trend catches on, then insect farming is the way of future.

What’s the connection between entomophagy and saving the planet from climate change? between entomophagy and sustainable food production?  Why do recent headlines pose such question as “Are insects the answer to global malnutrition?

Here’s a list of reasons why eating insects is good for humans and the planet:

  1. Including insects in our diet makes us healthier.
  2. Insects as protein source are a healthier alternative to beef.

  4. Including insects in our diet is environmentally sound.
